The ice cream moguls have been pretty outspoken about their socio-political views in the past, fighting for issues like same-sex marriage and climate control. A visit to Ben & Jerry's website (http://www.benjerry.com) can give you more information about the duo's activities, including their being arrested earlier this year as part of Democracy Awakening's protest on the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building.
This is all new information to me, though, and I am thrilled to see the founders of a multi-million dollar corporation not only taking a stand with Black Lives Matter but encouraging others to as well. Of course, backlash is going to follow but from what I've read, Ben & Jerry are used to it. Many people vowed to stop supporting the brand after they openly expressed their support of same sex marriage but, first of all, ain't nobody switching to Haagen Dazs and second, for all of the angry customers who call it quits, there's a bunch of folks - like me - who become full-fledged supporters.
So check out the statement on their website and read a few of the articles they've posted especially and including “Seven Ways We Know Systemic Racism is Real” and buy a pint of the Americone Dream.
...I know I will!
